September 17, 2001 HempCar, the world's first transcontinental journey fueled by biodiesel derived solely from industrial hemp seed oil (cannabis sativa l.), reached the 10,000 mile mark in Roswell, New Mexico, this Saturday past.
True to form, no sooner had HempCar passed through Roswell than an alternator bearing began to scream, sidelining the journey for two days in a tumbleweed ridden, dust speck of a town in west Texas. HempCar left Washington, DC on July 4th and is scheduled to end its journey in Washington, DC, on October 1st, having traveled nearly 12,000 on hemp biodiesel.
