Allan, would suggest using high levels of methanol and NaOH. Have made BD from "Frytol", edible animal fat with 8g/L NaOH and 250ml/L methanol. Vigorous mixing and separating the BD and glycerine as soon as is practical ( 1 to 2 hours then again at 24hrs) gives best results. If you have problems with tallow/tallow ester dropout after the BD has stood for a few days, freeze/thaw then filter the BD . On subsequent batches up the ammount of NaOH.
