If the little buggar would eat the mice first I would welcome him. Just like hawks -- (hawk says to himself) hmmm. . . do I want a tender chicken dinner or a rat?
Is that a trick question? I watch those BBC animal flicks too. But you know what? I live in the mountains so I know what their habits really are. BBC - Unlike man the hawk (or substitute here cougar, wolf, whatever)only kills to eat, not for sport. Me -- Man!!!! Did you see that hawk!!! He didn't stop killing till nothing was moving! (10 quail)(BTW that was several years ago because now all we have are hawks -- and a few eagles and ravens. I have not seen 1 grouse, quail or pheasant on this mountain in over 2 years. All gone -- predated by raptors) Television, they lie just to keep in practice. I find this topic, "10% for the animals", quite interesting from the standpoint of being a Bible student. So many of the concepts that earth friendly practices bring up are in ageement with the Bible. Leaving 10% for the animals is the equivalent of Lev:19:9: "And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest." The "corners" were left as the home of birds and wildlife, along with the "gleanings" which were left for wildlife, birds, and for the poor to gather. If things are kept in balance, the fox is not your enemy feasting on your poultry, but your helper, controlling rodents that otherwise would be eating and fouling your grain. The problem with "keeping things in balance" is a farm is not created for that. Its function is to produce food for sale. Reintroducing a fox is going to remind you why he was eliminated in the first place. He eats your poultry. Kirk ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ---------------------~--> Save Smiley.
