How about high taxes and the government does everything in its power to
entrench the power structure?

I don't believe that you'll find the means of production to be ruled by the
state in Sweden. Perhaps some aspects, which no doubt Hakan and others could
enlighten us all on, but certainly not all aspects.

And some of those pointers could be aptly applied here in the US, especially
when it comes to health care. The concept of those who can afford to buy an
entirely new body and stick their head on it when entire masses don't have
the capital means to pay for simple medications that would allow them to
keep their first body intact for another 20 years is a corrupt concept.

What is found in the US is a bastardized blend between capitalism,
corporatism and socialism - a bit like mixing everything on the dinner plate
before eating "cause it's all gonna' get mixed up sooner or later anyway" -
it compromises, if not destroys the maximum utility of each, but supposedly
keeps everyone happy enough for the politicians to keep getting elected.

Too bad it's not a homogenous blend.

Streaks of socialistic tendencies run rampant in the US, whether it be
subsidies, tax incentives, tax breaks, medicaid, you name it. Unfortunately,
those tendencies don't get spread equally across the board, more often than
not the special interests receiving the vast balance of "socialistic"
benefits.

Not exactly a policy of equity. But to hear some tell it, it's the best
system money can buy.
