Dear All

OK, I have reacted the sodium methoxide and
virgin oil together in a blender for 5 minutes.
The mixture is left to settle for 48 hrs. The
glycerol and ME phase separates. I remove the ME
phase and wash using a fish tank bubbler. The ME
phase does separate but doesnt look so clear.

Right, so the emulsion is a result of unreacted
FFA's mixing with water in the presence of Na+
ions? So as Alek says, remove the FFA component
with 97% H2SO4, which I have, then trans-esterify
with NaOH.

Does the two stage process really produce an
almost soap free wash?

Regards

Mark
