Tomas,
I had a similar problem with WVO from a restaurant when I tried the "foolproof recipe" allthough it worked fine with virgin oil. I had some sort of success using the two stage acid based version with a recipe found in the following website (but it requires titrating AND determination of peroxide number): http://mars.wiz.uni-kassel.de/agt/biodiesel/rezept.html Could you please explain to me what you mean with "adding lye/methanol several times and removing the glyrein"? I got another suggestion (not tried yet, but I will do it over the weekend) to use FFA removal first (by adding water / lye after titration) and then apply two stage process... We have been trying to titrated the oil after the acid step but the results seems to be very unreliable as for the last batch we ended up with results between 9 and 16 g/lye/liter oil and the previous titrations in the same range (on each batch we were doing 6 titrations). As mentioned before we have very dirty oil (we belive so and the reults confirms it or ?). At all the batches we have ended up with 5 - 6 g/lye/litre oil as Alec is talking about 3.1 and 3.5 if oil is in doubth. We are meassuring the Ph with lacmus paper ( I think we need to buy a ph meter) We are using Avli 98-100% pure lye and 98 % methanol. These are working fine in single step process. Alec say 3.1 g lye /litre oil do this mean 3.1+ 3.5 g which is the amount of lye used for virgin oil (3.5 g/liter) in total 6.6 g lye/litre oil which is close to the amount we have to use today in order to have all the glycerin removed. Thanks for all your comments and advices in advance. Best Regards from a + 15¡C Finland.
