Check out work done by Canakci and Van Gerpen. I'm trying out their ideas, but finding it difficult to get good results. Also, an acid value of 1mg KOH/g = 0.5 % FFA. They identiified water formation in the acid stage as the inhibiting part of the reaction, which is where Alek's 'foolproof' method falls down (apparently).
