Speaking with the authority of complete ignorance, I would have to ask 
why in the world your mechanic thinks the MG tranny would require 4k at 
60?  Isn't it going to be 1:1 in 4th gear?  If so, then you'd be looking 
at less than 3k at 60.  I forget but not over 2600 I don't think.  Isn't 
1:1 going to be the same regardless?  If 4th isn't 1:1 or very close to 
it I'd be surprised but don't know about the old MGs.  Can't really 
comment on the Datsun/Isuzu combination.  If you can make an old MG like 
that work out you'll have one phenomenabulous little machine.
