The following may be especially relevant to those concerned with the toxic
chemicals used by the Morse Chain company (now owned by Emerson Power
Transmission) in the South Hill area. (After investigation, the site is now
officially classified as "a significant threat to human health or the
environment; action is required.")

TCE Activist-Author Lenny Siegel to Speak in Ithaca August 1st

ITHACA, July 22, 2007 – Lenny Siegel, a nationally-known TCE activist and
author from Mountain View, CA will be in Ithaca August 1st to speak, answer
questions, and entertain discussion on the industrial solvent TCE
(trichloroethene).

The public meeting with Siegel will be on Wednesday August 1, at 7:00 p.m., in
the Livesay Conference Room at the Tompkins County Social Services Building,
320 W. State St., across from the City Health Club in downtown Ithaca.

Lenny Siegel has been Executive Director of the Center for Public
Environmental Oversight (see their website, http://www.cpeo.org) since 1994. He
is one of the environmental movement’s leading experts on both military
facility contamination and the vapor intrusion pathway, and for his
organization he runs three Internet newsgroups: the Military Environmental
Forum, the Brownfields Internet Forum, and the Installation Reuse Forum.

Siegel, who has given testimony before committees of the U.S. Congress and
Senate, is a member of several advisory committees, including the Interstate
Technology & Regulatory Council's work teams on Vapor Intrusion and
Perchlorate, (until recently) the National Research Council Committee on Army
Non-Stockpile Chemical Materiel Demilitarization, and the Moffett Field
(former Moffett Naval Air Station) Restoration Advisory Board.

The Center for Public Environmental Oversight (CPEO) is an organization that
promotes and facilitates public participation in the oversight of
environmental activities, including but not limited to the remediation of
federal facilities, private "Superfund" sites, and Brownfields. It was formed
in 1992 as CAREER/PRO (the California Economic Recovery and Environmental
Restoration Project) by the San Francisco Urban Institute, in response to the
large number of military base closures in the San Francisco Bay Area. It draws
upon the nearly three decades of work led by CPEO Director Lenny Siegel at the
Pacific Studies Center, a non-profit public interest information center in
nearby Mountain View, California.
