ANNOUNCEMENT Grant Money Available for Reading-Related, Literacy or Educational Programs
The Friends of the Tompkins County Library (FOL) is accepting applications for grants from non-profit organizations in Tompkins County that primarily serve local residents. Successful applications will fund programs or projects related to reading, books, literacy or skills-development for adults. Recipients in 2006 include Cooperative Extension's Urban 4-H creative literacy program at Parkside Garden Apts. in Ithaca; the Ithaca Community Treatment Court to purchase books about addiction and sobriety; and the Salvation Army for childrens' books included in their holiday baskets. We encourage applications that seek to improve the reading ability of children, build life skills in adults, and stimulate a love of reading at all ages. About 14 grants were awarded in 2006, ranging in size from $100 to $3,000. Grants may not be used to fund operating costs, on-going expenses or salaries in general but should be targeted to a specific program addressing a specific need. Grant guidelines and the one-page application can be found at http://www.booksale.org/friends/outreach.php Applications are reviewed throughout the year. Submit your application at least two months before the start of your program or project to ensure timely review and notification. General inquiries and requests for more information are welcome.
