-- YOU'RE INVITED to an all-CSA season kick-off picnic this Saturday, June 14, starting at 4:00 at the large pavilion in Stewart Park. Please bring a (local foods) dish-to-pass and your own place settings, so this can be a zero-waste event. There will be kids' activities and live music by Five2, Kevin Kinsella, and Burke & Bone. Learn about other area CSAs (bring friends and neighbors who aren't already CSA members!) and the "Healthy Food for All" program, which includes fundraising efforts to subsidize CSA shares for our lower income neighbors in Tompkins County. (I'm looking forward to participating in this program next year -- found out about it too late for this year.) For more info, contact Katie Church, 342-7632 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
-- LEARN TO MAKE JAM: Never tried it? Don't miss this opportunity! Cooperative Extension is offering a jam-making class from 6-9 pm on Wednesday, June 18. (Note: I'm so glad they're doing this, so I don't have to!) Make and take home a jar of reduced sugar or freezer strawberry jam. Fee $15; pre-registration and prepayment required.
