Is carbon neutral transportation possible within 10 years?

Ithaca, New York - September 14, 2008

Today the Swedish Institute for Sustainable Transportation (IST) has
announced that an international gathering of urban planners, industrial
designers, hi-tech and renewable energy experts will gather from September
14th to 16th 2008 in Ithaca, NY to examine precisely that question.

The 2nd Annual Podcar City Conference
<http://www.podcar.org/ithacaconference> , hosted by Connect Ithaca, LLC in
partnership with Cornell University, SIKA (the Swedish Institute for
Transportation and Communication Analysis), and other key organizations,
will be exploring whether Personal Rapid Transit (PRT or Podcar) technology
is capable of replacing the bulk of the mechanized commuting needs
worldwide. Furthermore, the conference will examine how such a technology
could be implemented in US and global cities to dramatically reduce their
overall carbon footprint by using only solar, wind and hydro energy sources.

Scientific presentations from the US, Sweden, Denmark, UK, Netherlands and
Poland will be heard at the conference at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.
Speakers representing the existing PRT implementation in Morgantown, WV, and
ongoing PRT projects such as those in Masdar (UAE), London Heathrow Airport
(UK), Obole (Poland), Copenhagen (Denmark) and Uppsala (Sweden) will report
on emerging technology and test facilities. The conference will also be
attended by local and national government officials from the United States
and the European Union, and by numerous Podcar manufacturers from the US and
Europe.

About Podcars:

Podcars are automated vehicles which ride on their own guide-way network,
separated from other traffic. They are driven by electricity, and because of
their light weight, use less energy than cars, busses or other traditional
ground level vehicles. Podcars are available on demand 24/7, can transport 2
to 20 people, have no drivers and can run above obstacles, at street level,
or underground. Unlike a busses or streetcars they automatically bring
passengers directly to their destinations without stopping en-route, thus
saving time and energy while offering superior convenience.

About the Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Connect Ithaca LLC:

The Institute for Sustainable Transportation was founded in 2002 in
Stockholm, Sweden, and is the main knowledge center for Podcar Technology in
the Nordic Countries. Connect Ithaca LLC is an Ithaca NY based company
committed to promoting and constructing sustainable mobility systems and
dense urban developments which will help cities thrive despite global energy
shortfalls and climate change.
