A Little R-E-S-P-E-C-T ! Now through April 25 The opening of the annual SewGreen gallery show at the Community School of Music & Arts was, in a word, mobbed. Twenty-five young designers and models wowed the crowd with a sensational eco-fashion show. You can still enjoy the R-E-S-P-E-C-T gallery exhibit, a bright collection of local reuse creativity, now through April 25. The gallery is open Monday through Thursday 10 am to 6 pm, Friday 10 am to 5 pm. CSMA is located at 330 East State Street, in downtown Ithaca. --------------------------------------------------- Seeing the World through Haiku Eyes, April 20 Zee Zahava is joining SewGreen in celebrating Earth Day with a free haiku workshop for teens and adults in the main gallery at CSMA (see above), 6 to 8 pm, Monday, April 20. The gallery environment will be an enjoyable backdrop to a relaxing writing experience. Fear not the haiku! says Zee. It's a lovely form for reflecting on our lives and our beautiful planet. Haiku from the workshop may be incorporated into the community crazy quilt that will come together on April 25 (see below). Register with SewGreen, [email protected], 607-277-7611. --------------------------------------------------- Get Ready for the Community Scrap Quilting Bee, April 25 SewGreen is inviting community members to contribute a piece to a scrap crazy quilt that we'll stitch together on Saturday, April 25, in the main gallery at the Community School of Music & Arts, 330 East State Street, in downtown Ithaca. You can make a quilt piece from our materials or bring your piece already made. Crazy quilts are traditionally constructed from irregularly-shaped scraps of material of all kinds and sometimes contain images or messages. Pieces may include embroidery and other embellishments. If you make your own piece, please use nothing purchased new for this purpose, and no photocopy processes, toxic inks or paint. The bee will be humming from 11 am to 4 pm. It's free and all ages are welcome. We'll display the quilt the next day at the SewGreen booth at the big Earth Day celebration at the Ithaca Farmers' Market pavilion, noon to 5 pm. Be a part of the community quilt! --------------------------------------------------- Amazing Clothing Sale Benefits SewGreen and Others Tree Cook is an amazing woman who organizes amazing benefit sales of high-quality used clothing. The free Open Sews, which are moving from Sunday afternoons, will start April 16. To use a machine, you must have some prior experience. There's no formal instruction but we will help you get acquainted with our classic Singers, and you are welcome to use our classroom sewing tools and materials. We also invite practiced sewers to help us make items for our charity sewing client, Hospicare. --------------------------------------------------- "By the Bag" Fabric Sale, May 16 Bargains will abound at SewGreen's "by the bag" fabric sale at the Women's Community Building, 11 am to 3 pm, Saturday, May 16. Any bag you fill must be a standard grocery-size REUSABLE bag. No paper, no plastic, please! If you don't have a bag, you may buy or borrow one from us. The bag price will decline hourly, from $7 a bag, to $6, $5, and $4 a bag in the last hour. No limit on the number of bags. Most of the fabrics donated to SewGreen have never been used. Some are vintage; many are beautiful; all are clean, folded, and useful. We'll also have some refurbished classic sewing machines for sale that day, and a few other goodies for reuse and needlecraft enthusiasts.
