Roundtable Title: *Green Innovation: Challenges & Opportunities*
Location: *423 ILR Conference Center, Cornell University*
Moderator: Mark Milstein, Director Center for Sustainable Global
Enterprise, Johnson School
Panelists: William McDonough, William McDonough + Partners
Professor Anil Netravali, College of Human Ecology
Professor Sheila Danko, College of Human Ecology
Roundtable Description: As opposed to past years where forums like this were
cast as a debate or point/counterpoint, we are striving to cultivate an
interactive dialogue between panelists as well as the audience. The focus
of the roundtable discussion will be the implementation and scaling
challenges of designing and commercializing ideas and technologies within
the sustainability context. A key question to consider is: how do we get
there from here? Incumbent technologies, embedded assets, even heuristics
and biases often impede progress toward developing more effective approaches
for dealing with our most difficult issues, including climate change,
ecosystem degradation, and poverty. Each panelist brings a slightly
different perspective and set of experiences with which to explore this
topic. Themes likely to be touched upon during the discussion will include:
- The adoption and diffusion processes of ideas as well as
technologies
- The nature of effective leadership and personal growth
- The role of values in entrepreneurial ventures
- The impact of organizational size on innovation and creativity
- Future trends in design and clean technologies
- The role of a systems framing of sustainability problems in the
design process
- Challenges or opportunities in today’s economic climate
