NEXT STEPS in the Conversation: Art for Ithaca's Future?
4:00 p.m. Monday, June 22nd
Center Ithaca Small Atrium

- Acknowledging the extraordinary cultural creativity that is one of Ithaca's
hallmarks, how can we join forces to create a more collaborative, pro-active
role for all the arts in downtown Ithaca?

BACKGROUND:
This past year, as part of the Downtown Ithaca Alliance's Art in the Heart of
the City public art program's focus on "Art for Sustainable Community",  a
series of conversations explored
   *   how the arts bring people and groups together across boundaries,
fostering the
       collective creativity essential for sustainable community;
   *   how the arts might be integrated with a new design for the Commons;
   *   what 'iconic' art for downtown Ithaca might look like, and
   *   how local artists and community members might g;t involved more actively.

NEXT STEPS:
This series generated a proposal to create an on-going Downtown arts advocacy
group - to share ideas, information, energy and action aimed at 'growing'
Downtown as a Creativity Center for the Ithaca community.

Try it out: "Ithaca: The Art City" - what do you think?

On the 22nd, Wilka Roig and Carrie Chalmers of Working Relationship - an artist
collective that on July 3rd will unveil the unique downtown storefront
installation "TO LET" - will anchor exploration of concrete steps for 'growing'
this proposal from vision toward collective action.

QUESTIONS?
If you can't join us that afternoon but would like to be part of the continuing
conversation, let me know - we'd value your suggestions and welcome your
participation whenever.
