Allison,
Want to thank you for your sage advice on how better to communicate w/ farmers.
Having grown up locally in a community of farmers, in a family of farmers, my
great grandfather founded the Poultry Sciences Dept. at Cornell (now
Environmental Studies), and having worked farms every summer until I was old
enough to get "real" work at the other minimum wage, I hold all farmers close
to my heart they are a special group, extremely hard working and dedicated to
the earth in their fashion. I am not speaking of corporate farmers, but there
were none in Trumansburg nearly 37 years ago when I was one of many youngsters
hired to manually detassle corn. A machine nor genetically modified seed
existed to replace me. Very simple times and with hindsight very valuable. I
still love and respect farmers, am well read and current on many issues. I also
appreciate all the reference material you included. It will be useful I'm sure.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Ara Karlberg
Fan of the family farmer
