A Wilderness Mentoring Program for Teens
February-September 2010
For teens ages 14-18. Deepen your wilderness skills, expand your knowledge of place and self, develop comfort, awareness and confidence in the natural environment and foster the ability to bring all these skills back to the community. The YEL program offers teens ages 14-18 the opportunity to prep for and attend an overnight wilderness immersion while developing their wilderness and mentoring skills all to be put to good use at Primitive Pursuits youth programs. Gain valuable field experience, college or job application credentials and earn your Certificate of Youth Environmental Leadership! WINTER TRACKS & TRAILS - HOMESCHOOL NATURE AWARENESS PROGRAM
Tuesdays,  February 23–March 30 (6 week session) 9:30am–1:00pm
Meets at: EcoVillage, Ithaca, NY
"One generation plants the trees, another gets the shade." This program brings together youth ages 5 – 8, their parents, youth mentors, and seasoned Primitive Pursuits staff. In this program your child will find their niche in both community and the natural world. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come be part of this growing community, though are not required to attend. Explore and play where winter meets spring! Follow animal tracks in the newly fallen snow, build cozy fires, and welcome the change of the season with songs and gratitude. On our coldest days, we can go inside for crafts such as cordage, weaving, stone-drilling, and other arts. Cost:$150-$250 (self-determined sliding scale)

FIELD & FOREST AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Tuesdays, February 23–May 4 (10 week session) 2:30–5:00PM
Dilmun Hill Student Organic Farm, near the corner of Pine Tree & Rt 366 in Ithaca Youth ages 8 to 12 are invited to experience the return of spring through the eyes of a farmer and hunter-gatherer. Primitive Pursuits Staff are joined by Dilmun Hill students and farm managers to deliver a dynamic blend of ancient and modern skills. Together we will wild-harvest and grow our own spring greens, in the woods and on the farm. Try your hand at primitive hunting with the atl-atl and rabbit stick. Journey from the greenhouses to the nut grove, and experience what both have to offer. Cost: $150 - $200 (self-determined sliding scale).

WILDERNESS EXPLORERS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Wednesdays, March 3-May 5, 2:30–5:30pm (grades 2-5) or 3:30-5:30pm (grades 6-8)
4-H Acres, on Lower Creek Road off Rt 13 North, Ithaca
For youth ages 7-13. What do you get when you cross several hundred acres of diverse wild spaces, skilled wilderness instructors, and a group of students eager for adventure? Come join the fun and you'll find out! Activities will include: fire-by-friction, navigation skills, edible/medicinal plant use, team and solo challenges, shelter building, and tool-crafting. Cost: $160 - $210 (self-determined sliding scale)

FREE! WINTER TREE WALK SERIES
Sundays, 3/7, 4/4 and 5/2 @ 2:00pm
Various locations. Contact Primitive Pursuits for monthly meeting spot.
For youth and adults (children must be accompanied by an adult guardian). Join Akiva Silver, tree raconteur extraordinaire, and kindle your own passion and appreciation of all things tree. If you want to learn your trees and be entertained, then this is the walk for you. This walk will cover native and invasive trees as well as their edible, medicinal and utilitarian uses.This series of walks will be held on the first Sunday of each month. If you can't make this walk but want to stay in the loop "become a fan" on the Primitive Pursuits Face Book page or let us know that you would like to join our mailing list Cost: FREE but suggested donation of $5 per person is welcome (money used to replant American Chestnuts). ADVANCED FIRE INTENSIVE FOR ADULTS
Sunday, March 14, 10:00am-3:00pm
4-H Acres, on Lower Creek Road off Rt 13 North, Ithaca
A workshop for adults (and youth aged 14 and over accompanied by adults - half price tuition for kids) with basic fire skills who would like to master the art of creating fires with raw materials gathered right off the land. This workshop will cover many trusted methods of fire by friction as well as all the indigenous materials available to our area that can be used to conjure and utilize this amazing natural tool. Cost: $25 if registering before March 1st, $35 on or after March 1st.

YOUTH NATURE AWARENESS PROGRAM
Thursdays, March 18–June 17, 9:00am–1:30pm (13 week session) *no program April 8
4-H Acres, on Lower Creek Road off Rt 13 North, Ithaca
If you've heard great things about Primitive Pursuits, chances are they happened here! Youth aged 8-16 are invited to immerse themselves in a long term relationship with the wild and empowering world of nature. Start with a team of seasoned and dedicated Wilderness Mentors. Add well trained Teen Mentors, peer groups of young naturalists, and then send them off in enough wild forest to get lost in. And what do you get? A powerful community of youth, each with their own connection to the natural world. Come find out why our longest running program remains our best attended program, and find out why Primitive Pursuits is "Not Your Typical Classroom". Cost: $350-$450(self-determined sliding scale)

SPRING CAMP 2010 (April School Break)
Monday-Friday, April 5-9, 9:00am – 3:00pm (Staff will be on site from 8:30am – 3:30pm)
4-H Acres, on Lower Creek Road off Rt 13 North, Ithaca
For youth ages 6-14. At our Spring Camp, each day you will gather plants for food, tea, and tool-crafting, follow tracks to the animal world, hone fire skills at your base camp, and explore beautiful wild places. We emphasize mentoring through community building activities, wilderness survival challenges, games and mastering survival skills and knowledge of the natural world. Come join us! Cost: Choose from three options:
#1: Monday and Tuesday: $110 - $140 (self-determined sliding scale)
#2: Wednesday-Friday: $145-$195 (self-determined sliding scale)
#3: Monday-Friday: $205-$305 (self-determined sliding scale)
