I am fairly new to the SVG community so this question may be out of ignorance... when will SVG1.2 and Rendering Custom Content spec be an official recommendation and when will the major players implement it?
One feature I sorely need in SVG is the ability to create widget libraries who's trees are visible when they are instantiated in a document. For example, I would want to define a thermometer widget (symbol) in an external file that will be included (instantiated) in one or more documents. While in the document I want to be able to dynamically change the graphic that indicates the current temperature. Furthermore, I'd like all instatinations of the thermometer widget to update should the template widget (look) be modified (so as reduce maintenance requirements). Currenlty, with symbols, the children are not visible. 1.2 has a "Rendering Custom Content" specification that may solve this issue (via shadow tree). Love to hear feedback on this. ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Get Bzzzy! (real tools to help you find a job).
