That is a question only you can answer. Both are different and both solicit different opinions. I use the Pro-96 and have only briefly played around with a BC396. Take a detailed look at the different features each offers and determine which one fits your needs better. Price wise the Uniden runs higher, the Pro-96 is on sale for $100 off at Radio Shack until March 7th.
