Y'know, what that patch provides is something needed by virtually all Sword apps. Xiphos just ran into it headlong the hard way, way back when 3.0 was first released, when a Spanish speaker wanted to review Xiphos and it choked on startup because his login name (consequently his home directory) is accented. It's the filesystem UTF-16 thing.
