Fact, Fiction and Finance
Dean Rickles
Unit for History and Philosophy of Science, University of Sydney

Econophysics is the most recent member of a long line
of interactions between the natural and social sciences. The aim is to directly
use the models, methods, and concepts of statistical physics and apply them to
economics (financial economics in particular). In this talk I discuss whether
there is anything particularly novel about this particular interaction, and
what consequences the merger has for issues of explanation, laws, emergence,
and the unity of science.

All welcome, admission free.
