This Monday April 7 Dean Rickles from University of Sydney will talk on:
Philosophy common room, 1.00-2.30.

"Time, Modality and Music".

Abstract: Recent work on the ontology of music has introduced various
concepts from the philosophy of time. Musical perdurantism, the view
that a musical work is a fusion of performances, has recently been advocated by Caplan and Matheson. I will examine this view and propose that if it is to work (and explain the statements we make about musical works) it should include extension 'along the modal axis' too, to include possible performances.
