Philo Agora's talk next Tuesday, March 10 , will be Cara
Ghassemian, on Simone de Beauvoir's Ethics of Ambiguity
For de Beauvoir, there are no absolute values. Freedom, emanating
from the responsible individual in action, is the foundation of all
values. An individual so engaged has a responsibility to promote that
freedom of others. This can be joyful but there is also conflict..
Underpinning this are choice and ambiguity, which are juxtaposed with
the prevailing Cartesian ideas of certainty, truth and virtue.
Cara is a solicitor and trade marks attorney who likes learning
Italian and French, and has a special interest in
whistleblowing. She is a member of Philo Agora's steering committee
and the forum administrator on our website
