Title: Patrick Greenough
Pragmatics in Thought: The Case Study of Moore's Paradox.

Abstract

Can there be pragmatic effects in thought? More particularly, can thoughts,
specifically judgments, generate implicatures in thought which are analagous to
Gricean implicatures in speech? In this talk I argue that it is plausible to
think so. On that basis, I then argue that one can offer a unified analysis of
the various versions of Moore's paradox as this paradox emerges in both talk
and thought.
