In the last decade Derivative culture and Piracy has exploded outwards with
the advent of the Internet, and copyright law is only just beginning to
catch up. I would like to provoke discussion on the moral viewpoints of a
variety of groups from extremes to moderate. To this end I will: Define
where trademarks, patents, but mainly copyright law is right now in
Australia, and by extension what is piracy; Discuss about derivative
culture, including remix culture and fan works. eg. Mona Lisa with a
Mustache; Also the policies of fair use of copyrighted material; Define Free
Material, Copyleft, Open source and other such cultures, which are exploding
outwards. eg. Wikipedia; Summarize the good and bad of these cultures and
some potential ideas of how we could move forward.
