Call for Papers QUESTIONING GOD: FAITH AND ATHEISM IN AUSTRALIA Will Australia's future be godless? Should there be chaplains in public schools? Should faith inform politics? Should religious belief be reflected in Australian law? Does scientific inquiry preclude belief in God? These are questions raised by the emergence of the 'new atheism' in Australia. They are serious questions not only for people of faith but for Australian society as a whole. This conference 'Questioning God: Faith and Atheism in Australia' will enable a wide-ranging, constructive engagement with the 'new atheism' and the place of faith in Australian society. Paper and workshop proposals are invited from various disciplines, including philosophy, theology, history, politics, biblical studies, social sciences, literature and the arts. Papers are especially welcome in the following areas: faith in a multicultural society; faith, atheism and politics; typologies of atheist critique; the post-secular experience of atheism; atheism and Islam in Australia; atheism and Buddhism; atheism and Australian history; atheism and popular culture; atheism and literature; theological atheism within the Christian tradition; science and religion; the Bible and atheism; and politics and values in Australian society. The conference will include papers, workshops and colloquium presentations.
