PHD SCHOLARSHIP ON ETHICAL FRAMEWORK FOR SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE RNA TECHNOLOGIES Current research ethics and governance frameworks of emerging technologies tend to be a one-off engagement at the application phase of research or at the initiation phase of clinical applications. In some cases, ethical evaluation of emerging technologies occurs when they are already deployed. This project will co-design an ethical framework to evaluate the ethical, legal and social implications (ELSI) of RNA science and technology Australia. The project will take into account current local and international policies, as well as views of developers, regulators, and health consumers. This project will involve multiple methods commonly used in ELSI research and empirical bioethics research. Both approaches combine philosophical/normative analysis and empirical methods from the social sciences to address ethical questions. The project will consist of three main studies: a scoping review of literature on the ethical governance of RNA research and development in Australian and international jurisdictions; an interview study with stakeholders; and a co-design policy process to develop an ethical framework.
