I think the problem I posted bellow is cause by the debug javascript 
toolbar. because I was calling the action with frontent_dev.php/member/test

But this still does not explain why I am getting the same error when I 
turn on the caching for the production environment.
Do you need any information from me to debug this. Sorry if I am not 
helpful enough :(
