A generic installer would be something like: - System checks environment requirements, the usual: php version, apache version, mod rewrite, gd (plugins may add more requirements) - User enter database name, user, password - System creates necessary database structures (table, etc, etc) - System check that cache, log, and upload folder are writable (plugins may register additional folder)
I'm sure there'll be a couple more, but they would still be pretty generic. Yes, a Symfony app can be more specialised and more complex, but I'd say most Symfony apps we develop can use such generic installer almost out of the box. Just like so many projects have benefited from sfGuardPlugin, even though not necessarily that ALL projects use sfGuardPlugin.
