I too greatly prefer mailing lists. FWIW, I've seen a few places have the
mailing list and forums be two frontends to the same data -- I'm not sure if
most places do mailing-list to forum, vice-versa, or both coming from a
usenet group or whatever, but it's definitely nice when it's there.
