I would be happy with either different mailing lists, or shutting these down
in favor of the forums. But it's definitely not working the way it is now.

I do agree that forums will see less traffic though.

I think "splitting the community" can also be seen as "organizing the
community" or "helping the community focus". The people trying to get and/or
provide help for each version of the frame work will have a much easier time
if there's less noise from the "other side". I think the benefits would far
outweigh the negatives.
