Comment #7 on issue 1374 by akshaysrinivasan: simplify(x**2-x**2.0) does not yield 0. http://code.google.com/p/sympy/issues/detail?id=1374
Maxima : (%i1) is(x^2 = x^2.0) ; (%o1) false and yet, (%i4) trigsimp(sin(x)**2.0 + cos(x)**2); `rat' replaced 2.0 by 2/1 = 2.0 (%o4) 1 (%i5) ?? I agree, this has to do with the assumption that the number is not of arbitrary precision. But in general should this be taken as (x^2 == x^2.0) be taken as false ? -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
