not yield 0.

How about we assume that (2.0 = 2), (x^2 = x^2.0), (Real(2.0) = Integer(2))  
etc.
whenever simplify is explicitly called, and have them unequal everywhere  
else by
default.
This in essence will be something functionally equivalent to what exists in  
Maxima.
