These tests are not a nonsense, those tests are there to check that it is fast enough for big numbers. Ok, you are right that (-9)**Rational(3,2) is wrong with my patch. How is it that it is not tested for? We need to greatly improve our testsuite for this. So let's fix it the way you started, but could you please comment the code?
