Here is a patch that makes it not automatically combine exponents, unless  
the exponent would not be an Add
(e.g., exp(x)*exp(2*x) => exp(3*x)) or if the exponent is a number (e.g.,  
x**3*x**2 => x**5).  It DOES NOT pass
tests (though it doesn't do bad, 11 fail and 1 exception).  Those need to  
be fixed.  We also need a function that
does this (probably combine).
