Ah, thanks. I think sympy-live is also using a better link for the cdn mathjax.js file. I changed it to use http://cdn.mathjax.org/mathjax/latest/MathJax.js?config=TeX-AMS_HTML-full.
$ still doesn't work (I will research the configuration options more, though, to see if this can be fixed).
However, it now does a better job when it encounters an unknown command. It now renders the rest of the equation puts the command in red, instead of just putting a yellow box.
