1) We can have this functionality in .simplify() or something like that if you would prefer. 2) The simplification is only performed when there is an unique solution. It turns out that solve(sin(x)) returns a single solution at x = 0, which is a bug in solve IMHO (issue 1234; seems like for a long time nobody cared to fix it).
