I see that IPython has started doing public Google+ hangouts for some
of their core discussions. See for example

I think this is really cool. The hangout is basically a really
intelligent multi-way video chat that requires no setup.  The face to
face interaction is much more effective than text interaction for
making design decisions.  You can also hook up a Google Docs document
if you want to whiteboard something, or keep minutes. And if the
hangout is public, others can watch and comment in real time, or watch
the conversation later.

We should do some of this for SymPy.  In particular, I think it would
be a great alternative to IRC for weekly GSoC meetings. They could
still be public and recorded (just make the hangout public instead of
private), but you get the advantages of face to face meeting.
