Hi,
I've have a Delphi 7 GSM modem application written by a freelancer, which i am
thinking of porting to Lazarus/Linux, which means all components will need to
be ported to Lazarus as well. The app uses WSC4D (wsc32.dll -
http://www.marshallsoft.com/wsc4d.htm
) from Marshallsoft which only works on Win32, so i will need to get that
replace. I searched the web and found Synaser and Synapse which supports FPC,
so I am trying to figure out if Synaser is a good replacement for WSC4D, after
which I intend to hire someone to do the porting work.
Some questions which came to my mind which I hope someone can help answer:
1. I read that Synapse uses synchronous sockets or with limited non-blocking
mode. What does this imply and will it affect my application if I use Synapse?
Based on my understanding, serial uses asynchronous communication.
2. I experimented with the demo and found out that it does not lock port,
unlike WSC4D. I also read that Synaser can lock port under Linux, but nowhere
in the code or documentation does it says that Synaser can lock port under
Windows. My question is - can Synaser lock a COM port under Windows?
3. Will Synaser be able to replace WSC4D?
Thanks. Will appreciate any comment.
Rgds,
Joshua
