I think the only way to handle this is to specifically detect opendns (and anything other similar DNS services). Essentially OpenDNS is lying to you (because you told it to: this is one of its configuration settings). So you try to go to www.somesitethatdoesnotexist.com, and OpenDNS (instead of giving you a DNS error) returns its own IP address, and when you do an HTTP request from that IP it's job is to redirect you to a search page. If you have a reason to treat that as an error even though the user's admin has set up OpenDNS to do this (albeit that this is a default setting for OpenDNS), then you have to specifically look for 302 responses from OpenDNS and treat them as non-valid. This is a common problem; try setting your mail client to an invalid domain and you'll get errors to the effect that there is no mail server running (because you've been directed to OpenDNS where there is no such service running), rather than getting a host can't be found message, which would have directed you to the fact that you spelt the host name wrong in your config. At least with web there is the redirect from their server to go by! The only other way to handle this might be to do a reverse lookup on the DNS response and detect OpenDNS servers that way (which at least would not limit to http requests). -- Mark Rogers // More Solutions Ltd (Peterborough Office) // 0844 251 1450 Registered in England (0456 0902) @ 13 Clarke Rd, Milton Keynes, MK1 1LG ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Palm PDK Hot Apps Program offers developers who use the Plug-In Development Kit to bring their C/C++ apps to Palm for a share of $1 Million in cash or HP Products.
