Auth changeover wouldn't (necessarily) require a flag day. We could set the old 
servers to accept both auth types.

Where it gets tricky is when someone uses a pre changover client on one device 
and a post changeover client on the other and the internal data structures have 
changed. There's a chance we could finesse the auth part, but the old client is 
guaranteed to freak out about the record contents, probably with bad 
consequences. That's the real flag day.
