Jenny, thanks for reaching out. This email is dated late June, but it only showed up in my inbox today and AFAICT no-one has replied to you. Sorry if there's been some deliverability problem here as well as the sync issues. It sounds like you may have hit some transient server performance issues, which occasionally produce the error message you described. Can you confirm whether the problem is still happening? If so, I recommend filing a bug here so we can follow up properly: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Cloud%20Services&component=Server:%20Sync And attaching any recent error logs that you can find by going to "about:sync-log" in the browser's URL bar.
