Alexander,
It surely looks like I have successfully connected to my private sync
server. I didn't count the number of bookmarks or other objects but a
few samples of bookmarks, history and 'registrations' where all there.
Also, the first and last of the bookmarks are present so I assume all
the rest will be there as well.
The procedure was as you described, changing the token server URL was
sufficient because I use the Mozilla authentication server.
After that, logging on with my Mozilla account worked like a breeze and
the display showed a connection and displayed my token server URL.
The first sync failed, but that was my own fault. Somewhere I must have
messed up my webserver settings or DNS registrations because the sync
server was resolved to an incorrect ipv6 address. After changing to the
mobile data service (disable wifi) and a force sync in the Android
settings -> accounts -> Firefox I could see my mobile Firefox for
Android syncing in the webserver access log.
You mentioned adb logcat output. That was actually the hardest part. ;)
I needed a google search to figure out how to enable the developers
settings and after that I had to figure out where to get a driver. An
FYI others: On the Huawei P8 there is actually an 'easter egg' to enable
these developer settings, just tap at least 4 times (or so) on the build
number in the phone information. On my old Samsung it was simply plain
visible in the settings. The drivers come with the HiSuite, just install
it even if you don't need it. I did find 'driver only' links but none
pointed directly to Huawei so I skipped these.
I'm not sure if you still want the log, it's pretty large (2 MB) and a
lot of non FxA related stuff ended up in there as well.
Just let me know if you're still interested, I'll keep it for a while.
If give the relevant keywords I can even send you a pre-filtered copy. ;)
Thanks.

Hello,
Moving to a new phone I tried once again to get custom sync 1.5
working on my Android. Unfortunately I was not able to get this
configured because te mention add-on (fxa-custom-server [from the
heart]) seems not to work. Instead of prompting me for the token
server URL nothing pops up at all.
I have not tested this in a long time, nor have I updated the
documentation. Sorry!
The good news: this should be much simpler now. Would you be my guinea
pig?
There are four FxA settings in Firefox for Android; they are listed at
https://dxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/mobile/android/app/mobile.js#959.
They should be the same names as they are on Desktop.
Could you try updating the relevant settings (if you're just trying
for custom Sync, probably you need to only
change|||identity.sync.tokenserver.uri|) and then could you try to
connect to Firefox Sync *without* using the custom server add-on?
|adb logcat| output while you're doing this will help greatly.
Thanks!
On my old Samsung Galaxy S2 with Android 4.1.2 and a (most likely)
pre 44 version of Firefox I had no problems.
The current phone is a Huawei P8 with Android 5.0.1.
Any experiences or ideas that may lead to a solution?
Btw. I noticed that the add-on shows 37 as last supported version,
is this valid?
This is definitely not correct; I just haven't updated the addon.
There may be an issue, but it's not known to be capped to 37.
Nick
