Hi there, for a long time i kept on using a local Firefox Sync 1.1 Server in my office, using Firefox 31.8esr on all computers.
After upgrading to Firefox 51 (Firefox 45 on Mac OS 10.5 and 10.6) and Firefox Sync 1.5 i now ran into bookmark problems with this setup - only a fraction of my bookmarks are getting synced or backuped, either in the profiles bookmarkbackups folder or when manually backing up. When starting the same profile in Firefox 31.8esr not a single bookmark shows up. In another, not so frequently used profile i see that inside bookmarkbackups backups are stored as .json files previous to december 27, from that day on backups have a .jsonlz4 ending. .json files have the wxpected size of about 3MB, while .jsonlz4 files are only a few KB. I can't backup from bookmarkbackups folder items as an error occurs that files are not readable (.json). .jsonlz4 files only bring up a fraction of all bookmarks. I assume that at some point the bookmark storage system was changed and only new bookmarks were getting stored in backup files. From day 1 using FF50 i had the problem that i couldn't create new folders inside already existing folders. To add anothier oddity: whenever going to preferences/Sync/manage account i have to parse in the password, a message appears that Sync is about to start (although it started already before) and in the devices list the device is doubled up. This is everytime i go to preferences/Sync/manage account. After some time an 'Unexpected error' message occurs. For testing purposes i set up an environment of 2 computers both running Firefox 51, containing my bookmarks library which was previously synced between them using FF Sync 1.1., now logged into the same FF Sync 1.5 account. There is syncing taking place, but in a crooked way - bookmarks changes on one machine shop up in different places in the bookmarks hirarchy on the other one. Finally - when setting up a brand new profile and logging into the same Firefox Sync account only a fraction of all bookmarks from the other machines and only parts of all Addons are showing up after initial Sync is finished. 2 questions arise: how can i sanitize the whole process and my bookmarks library and get a complete backup of all my bookmarks? Is there a documentation of restricions for mixed environments of Firefox versions regarding FF Sync 1.5? Thanks!
