But before you start submitting them, how complete are they?  Are you
using a rich format like the RSS-1.0 style?  There are probably some
things like location metadata and dates that might be useful to put
into feeds.

That's the right way to do it.

Most crawlers are based on the HTML pages, not the RSS feed, for a
variety of (very good) reasons.  If your pages are accessible to the
crawlers that will take care of them being indexed.  Feeds are for
readers.
