Hi Everyone, For a while Bill and I have been quietly tagging certain feeds behind the scenes as "explicit."
Now that everyone is talking about certain such feeds, it seems like the time is right to make this functionality available to all Reviewers. Henceforth, if you see a feed that seems to be something that shouldn't show up on the front page of Syndic8, or if your grandmother would blush if she saw it (you have told your grandmother about RSS, right?) then feel free to click the "Not Safe" item in the action bar. This will mark the feed as "Explicit". Such feeds don't show up on the front page of Syndic8 in boxes and in the various "random" feeds, and in a couple of other places. Clearly everyone's grandmother has different values, and trying to write guidelines for this sort of thing is far more difficult than it seems, so you'll have to use your judgement here. There are about 5000 feeds already flagged. We don't want to make Syndic8 a haven for this sort of material, but trying to block it all seems hopeless too. Before you ask, there's no way to do a search for the explicit feeds. There is a new "Explicit" value on each feed info page, right after Encoding.
