hey all,
i'm sorry, this is probably a punishable offense, posting a System 7.x question to a System 6 list, but i'm running out of resources. when you install System 7.x, you are given the option to "install for this macintosh" or "install for all macintoshes". is there any way to take a System Folder that was installed specifically for one Macintosh and "upgrade it" so it will work with another system? alas, this is in the absense of the installer floppies. specifically, here's my dilemma: i have a Mac SE/30 with System 7.1 (installed specifically for this model of computer). i'm wrapping up a long-term project of hotrodding this puppy, and now i've installed a Mac IIsi ROM SIMM to make the SE/30 fully 32-bit friendly. but (reasonably) the computer can't recognize itself with the version of the OS that's installed. i have the installation floppies for 7.0.1, so it's no problem getting the computer to boot with 7.0.1 (installed for all Macs), but no installation media for 7.1. however, of everything in the System 7.x universe, i'd rather have it run 7.1 than 7.0.1. ultimately, i hope to make this a quad-boot system: System 6 (see! keepin it on-topic!), System 7.1, System 8.1 (with a little encouragement), and OpenBSD 3.x. unfortunately, System 7.1 isn't available for download from ftp.apple.com. so ... is there any way i can get the 7.1 System Folder to work with this new Frankenstein computer, using any possible resources from the 7.0.1 system folder? (e.g. are there any enabler-type files that i don't know about?) i know, it's a long shot, but i need to ask. thanks, craig __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
