I think the original poster had a router, but it was setup for DHCP.
I'm fairly certain that every router will support static IP addresses,
but I have yet to find a single salesman point out one which will.
And I never bothered doing the research myself because I knew that it
would take less time and be less expensive to buy a 486 and install
FreeBSD.  The skills acquired are more useful too.  (A knowledge about
DSL and cable routers will be obsolete in a matter of months.  A
knowledge of Unix lasts a lifetime.  :)
