Ever since this list exploded back into life a few days ago, I've been
getting a few tons per day of messages. So I've switched to digest mode.
The e-mail client I use at present (Pine under an AIX shell account) tells
me that the number and size of the System 6 digests is steadily decreasing
once again.
I wonder why that is.
Here's my guess: a good many of you guys out there may, like me, be a
little overwhelmed by the depth of the discussions in which some of the
more--ahem--technically gifted of us engage. We may feel -- as I often do
-- that we really haven't anything to contribute to this and so we shut
up. And soon even the techies run out of talk and the traffic on the list
peters out.
I'm sure nobody intends this; it's just a natural effect of our differing
levels of expertise. Because of their obvious willingness to help, I'm
sure that the -- let's call them the programmers -- are, like Samuel
Johnson's booksellers, "generous, liberal-minded men" and there is,
finally, enough room here for all of us.
So here, lest the list languish once again, is what I'm going to do.
Anytime I see talk falling below a critical level, I'm going to start
blogging on about anything I can think of related to System 6: my
experiences with it, software I use and how I feel about it, and so on.
The mind-blowing boredom inherent in this ought to be enough to get
somebody else talking out of sheer desperation.
I lurk no more.
Best wishes to all, but beware of
