Love it!

So I'm not the only insane person who cannot discipline himself. :D

As for the games bit, I find that the biggest distraction is
multitasking. If you know that you'll have to quit, launch another
program, quit the other program, then relaunch the original program,
it becomes impossible to do something for just a few seconds and
impractical to do something for just a few minutes -- so you are
less likely to do so. (And a lot of those "just a few minute"
things take much longer because you get sidetracked.)

Also, sometimes the distractions are internal to the work. For
example, Gareth Jones talks about premature editing in writing:

It's possible to design a word processing program around the
needs of the writing phase. I'll illustrate this by mentioning
some of the features in WordBench, a program for MS-DOS and
Apple II computers. It has specialized tools for maintaining
references, making outlines, brainstorming, and even "blind
typing" (whatever you type appears as asterisks) to discourage
premature editing. (Some writing classes advise people to achieve
the same effect by writing with the monitor turned off). When
the writing phase is over and the time comes to edit, it cleverly
gives you the choice of using its own word processor or of
adding your own favourite one to its main menu.

BTW, there is lots of Apple II and some Mac stuff on his site.
